Women's Tennis to Conclude Regular Season in West Point 

2013 STATS | SCHEDULE 

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany women's tennis team play their final regular season match of the 2013 season as they travel to Army College, on Saturday, April 20. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. in West Point, N.Y. UAlbany (8-12, 3-2 AE) will look to build a two-game win-streak heading into postseason play.

LAST MATCH
The Great Danes shutout ASA College, 7-0, inside the Campus Bubble on Tuesday, April 16. Graduate student Irene Santos-Bravo went undefeated in her final home match – winning at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles. ASA College (8-4) is currently ranked No. 2 nationally at the junior college level.

SCOUTING OPPOONENTS
Army College: The Black Knights was 19-6 on the season, 6-0 in Patriot League matches. They are led in singles play by junior Jamila Paul. She is undefeated at the No. 1 singles position, 9-0. Overall, she’s a team-best 22-6 and 13-3 in dual singles play. The duo of sophomore Elle Taylor and junior Della Taylor are 11-9 in doubles play. They defeated America East opponent Binghamton, 6-1, in February.

HONORING THE SENIORS
Tuesday’s match against ASA College was the final match for three members of UAlbany women’s tennis team -- senior Sarah Iannone, graduate student Irene Santos-Bravo and sophomore Fran White. All three have played pivotal roles for the Great Danes in 2013. Iannone and White have teamed up for the majority of the season at No. 3 double’s while Santos-Bravo has spent 2013 at No. 1 doubles and No. 1-3 singles.

TENNIS MAKES HISTORY 
UAlbany defeated Binghamton 4-3 on Friday, April 5 and UMBC, 4-1 on Sunday, April 7. Both at Varsity Court. Prior to this season, the Great Danes had never beaten UMBC or Binghamton in the program's Division I era.

LOPEZ LEADS GREAT DANES IN 2013
Junior Rocio Lopez has twice been named America East Player of the Week in 2013 on her way to a team-best 14-4 record in dual singles play. Last season, Lopez was selected as the 2011-12 Team MVP and also honored to the America East All-Conference First Team. She claimed UAlbany's best record in both singles and doubles, 12-5 and 15-4, respectively. 

WORLD-RANKED SPANIARD AWARDED PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Irene Santos-Bravo was named America East Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, April 9. She won three of four matches over the prior weekend. Against Binghamton, the Madrid, Spain native won at No. 2 doubles and then stepped into the No. 1 singles slot, earning a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win. Two days later, she won again at No. 1 singles against UMBC, 6-1, 6-3. Santos-Bravo, a globally-recognized singles player, has ranked as high as No. 18 in Spain and No. 443 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

UMBC TO HOST 2013 AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT
The 2013 America East Tennis Championship will be held at UMBC from April 26-28. Last season UAlbany was defeated by Stony Brook, 4-1, in the first round of the tournament. They went on to win over Hartford, 4-0, in the consolation bracket. Be sure to check back to the official UAlbany women’s tennis website for 2013 tournament details.

NEW YEAR; SAME FACES
UAlbany returns five of seven players from last season. They are led by Rocio Lopez who will play No. 1 singles for the Great Danes this season. They also return sophomores Cheryl Kukkonen, Kirsten Scott, Fran White and senior Sarah Iannone.

NO PLACE(S) LIKE HOME
UAlbany will split time at three different locations for home matches this season. These include Tri-City Fitness, 944 New Loudon Road, Latham, N.Y.; SPORTIME, 2699 Curry Road, Schenectady, N.Y. and Varsity Court on the University campus. Matches will be at the specified location on the following dates. Tri-City Fitness: Feb. 1, Feb. 10 and March 13; SPORTIME: Feb. 9 (rescheduled for University bubble), March 3 and March 9; Varsity Court: April 5, April 7 and April 16.
