Men's Basketball And Siena Fight For Capital District Dominance

THE STARTING FIVE

1. Crosstown Rivalry Contest
For the 53rd time, UAlbany and Siena will battle for the Albany cup on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Times Union Center with tip-off set for approximately 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel 50 (standard definition) and 1803 (high definition) in the Albany Region. Siena leads UAlbany 32-19 all time in the 52 meetings, with the Saints taking the most recent game 64-60 last season. Since both teams began competition when the Great Danes entered Division, the Saints hold a 9-2 lead in the all-time series.

2. Stomach Bug? No Problem
Senior guard Mike Black, heading into UAlbany's Monday contest versus Wagner, was fighting off what seemed like food poisoning since Sunday night. With just three points in 15 minutes in the first half, the Chicago, Ill. native shook off his stomach problems and paced the Great Danes with 16 of his team-high 19 points en route to a three-point UAlbany win over Wagner, 66-63, at SEFCU Arena.

3. Supplemental Support From The Aussies
Sophomore forward Sam Rowley and redshirt-freshman guard Peter Hooley have proved to be key reserves off the bench for the Great Danes in the first seven games of the season. Both players have averaged 21 minutes a game and have combined for 12.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

4. Nerve-Racking November
During a tumultuous seven-game stretch in the month of November, UAlbany has come out with an impressive 5-2 record. Of the first seven games, the Great Danes played in five games of which the outcome was within three points or less and tallied a record of 4-1 in those games.

5. Batman Finds His Robin
Mike Black in his new role as the team's "Batman" has taken on the role well, averaging a team-best 17.4 points a game. With questions to the beginning of the season of who would supplement Black with scoring has been answered by 5'10 fifth-year senior guard Jacob Iati. Iati has squashed all questions concerning his size as an issue, scoring 15.0 points a game and shooting lights out from behind the arc. The York, Pa. native is currently tied-for 19th in the NCAA for made threes (21).
