Albany, N.Y.- University at Albany men's basketball head coach Will Brown announced the 2012-13 non-conference schedule on Tuesday, August 28.
Head coach Will Brown, who is in his twelfth season at UAlbany and currently the longest tenured head coach in the America East Conference, includes 14 regular-season home games (six non-conference) and very competitive tournament in the 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off. The regular-season tournament features the BIG Ten's Ohio State, Pac-12's Washington, A-10's Rhode Island and BIG EAST's Seton Hall .
"I feel that our non-conference schedule is extremely challenging and will help prepare us for America East Conference play," said Brown. "We are very excited about the opportunity to play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament".
"We will be tested early and often in non-conference play. Several teams on our non-conference schedule will compete for conference championships and be in a position to play in the post season. This non- schedule will improve our team and will get us ready for the rigors of the conference season".
The regular-season will tip-off against the Atlantic-10's Duquesne on Friday, November 9 in SEFCU Arena. This will be the second time that these two teams have faced-off. The last time the Great Danes played the Dukes was the 1998-99 season-opener, in Pittsburgh, Pa., with the Dukes winning that game 72-43.
Brown and Co. then prepare for the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off. UAlbany heads to Ohio St. (Nov. 11) then to Washington (Nov. 13), both of which are on their respective campus sites. Then UA travels to the Mohegan Sun Arena to play Missouri-Kansas City (Nov. 17) in the first round of the Springfield bracket. The Great Danes will then either play Norfolk St./Loyola (Md.) the following day.
Following the regular-season tournament, the Great Danes begin their home-and-home series against South Carolina St. (Nov. 20) in the Smith-Hammond-Middletown Memorial Center.
After five-straight games on the road, UAlbany comes back to SEFCU to play Northeast Conference opponent Wagner (Nov.26). The Great Danes will look to change their luck around against Seahawks, having lost all five previous matchups.
For the 52nd time, both UAlbany and Siena will face off in the Times Union Center on Saturday, December 1.
The Great Danes then play the final four of its six non-conference games, before conference play, in the SEFCU Arena, which includes St. Francis (N.Y.) (Dec. 5), South Carolina State (Dec. 12), Quinnipiac (Dec. 21) and Brown (Dec. 31). In between those four games, the Great Danes travel to Patriot League foes Colgate (Dec. 8) and Navy (Dec. 28).
The final non-conference will be the Bracket Buster on Saturday, February 23, which the opponent has not yet been decided. The Great Danes, however, have been slated to play that opponent on the road.
