Men's Basketball Adds Four To The 2012-13 Season

Albany, N.Y.- UAlbany Men's Basketball Head Coach Will Brown announces the addition of four new Great Danes for the fall of 2012. Juniors Gary Johnson, DJ Evans, Dave Weigmann and walk-on freshman Scott Bruxvoort will look to contribute to a UAlbany roster that is bringing back nine letter winners in search for the program's third America East Conference title.


Gary Johnson

6'6 Weight: 195lbs Hometown: Moreno Valley, Calif. Previous School: Oxnard Junior College (California)

Johnson, a 6-foot-6 wing player, averaged a team-leading 17.3 points and was second-best in rebounding at 6.7 rebounds per game. He was named to both the All-Western State All-Conference Northern Division and All-Western State Conference First Teams.

Brown on Johnson: "Gary (Johnson) is a very versatile big wing who excels on both ends of the court.  He does a great job of attacking the rim on offense and can guard multiple positions on defense.  He is an excellent athlete as well".

DJ Evans

5'9 Weight: 165lbs Hometown: Brandon, Miss. Previous School: East Mississippi Junior College

Evans, a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Second Team All-American, averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds a game in two years at East Mississippi Junior College. He was named All-Region 23 First Team  (twice) and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College First Team (twice). The 5-foot-9 point guard led his squad, in two years, to a 48-11 overall record and two consecutive trips to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Brown on Evans: "DJ (Evans) was one of the best Junior College point guards in the country this past season.  He is very quick and does a great job of pushing the ball in transition and getting in to the lane.  He is a pest on defense and comes from one of the best Junior College programs in the country".

Dave Wiegmann

6'8 Weight: 210lbs Hometown: Breese, Ill. Previous School: Southwestern Illinois Junior College

Wiegmann, an All-Great Rivers Athletic First Team, was the leading scorer and rebounder for the 21-9 Southwestern Illinois Junior College squad. The 6-foot-8 forward was also named to the All-Region 24 First Team.

Brown on Wiegmann: "David (Wiegmann) is a skilled 4 man who shoots the ball well from the perimeter. He has tremendous length and mobility.  He plays extremely hard and has a good feel for the game.  He comes from a very structured and successful Junior College program".

Scott Bruxvoort

Height: 6'5 Weight: 210lbs Hometown: Monroe, Iowa Previous School: Prairie City Monroe High School

Bruxvoort, a Monroe, Iowa native, averaged 22.2 points and 8.9 rebounds a game his senior season. He scored over 1,782 points in his career at Prairie City Monroe H.S. The 6-foot-5 forward was named to the 2A All-Conference, All-District, All-Sub State and All-State First Teams. He will join the UAlbany men's basketball program as a preferred walk-on.

Brown on Bruxvoort: "Scott is an explosive athlete who will be making the transition to the perimeter on a full time basis at the D1 level, He plays extremely hard and is a big time dunker, He has all of the physical tools to be successful at our level".
