Albany, N.Y.- Gerard Suero's 25 points led UAlbany over Binghamton, 74-68, on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at SEFCU Arena. UAlbany has now 8-0 at home this season and has won 11 consecutively dating back to last season. With the Great Dane victory, they improve to 13-9 overall and 5-3 in the conference while the Bearcats drop to 0-20 overall and 0-8 in the conference. Four Great Danes scored in double digits.
Suero led all scorers with 25 points on 8-of-14 from the field. Logan Aronhalt, Mike Black, and Luke Devlin all went over double-digits in scoring. A stronger second half helped UAlbany outshoot Binghamton, 46.4-43.5, and outrebound by nine, 40-31.
Robert Mansell and Ben Dickinson each had 20-point games, scoring 22 and 21, respectively. Omar Richards chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Binghamton's strong first-half performance gave them its third lead of a half all season.
UAlbany down by two at the half, 33-31, struggled to go on a run as Binghamton would hold on to its lead for the next seven minutes. The Bearcats would have as high as a five-point lead, 52-47, with two-made free throws by Mansell at the 11:32 mark.
The Great Danes would finally find their rythme going on a 14-2 run in a five minute span to grab its largest lead of seven at that point, 61-54, with 6:24 left in the game. The run was capped by Devlin's old-fashion three-point play. UAlbany's defense clamped down in the last six minutes of the game to grab its eighth win at home and 13th overall.
A rough start to the first half for UAlbany as Binghamton went up 12-5 with 15:18 left in the first half. The seven-point lead was the largest lead the Bearcats have had all season long. Four of the five Bearcat starters contributed with at least a bucket.
Binghamton and UAlbany would have two lead changes and six times would be tied throughout the remaining half. The Bearcats would end the half with a jumper by Ben Dickinson to grab the halftime lead, 33-31.
The Bearcats would lead the Great Danes in shooting percentage on the floor, 42.4-36.7, while the Great Danes would outrebound the Bearcats, 23-19. Robert Mansell would lead all scorers at the half with 11 points.
