Knotts enters his fourth season as an assistant coach in the 2018-19 season after serving four years as the director of operations under Will Brown. A four-year member of the Purple & Gold from 2003-06, Knotts assists Brown in all facets of the program, including recruiting, player development, scouting opponents and academic advising for men's basketball student-athletes.
In his four years as director of operations with the program, Knotts served as an academic advisor for select players. He also coordinated the Will Brown Basketball Camp and annual men's basketball golf outing. The point person for travel logistics and administrative duties, Knotts has helped the Danes to three consecutive America East titles. A native of San Bernardino, California, Knotts rounds out the coaching staff that already includes fellow men's basketball alum Jon Iati and Josh Pelletier.
He has previously worked as a microcomputer technician at Hudson Valley Community College and an IT specialist for the New York State Department of Health.
Knotts earned four varsity letters and appeared in 73 career games as a member of the UAlbany basketball program from 2003-06. As a senior, the 6-foot-6 forward helped the Great Danes capture their first America East Conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2005-06.
A three-sport scholastic athlete in football, basketball and lacrosse, Knotts attended St. James School in Hagerstown, Md. He was chosen the 2002 Tri-State Small School Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Washington County and All-Mid Atlantic Conference teams.
A native of San Bernardino, Calif., Knotts received a B.A. in information science and policy with a minor in education from UAlbany in 2006. Knotts and his wife, the former Allison Brown and son Jalen reside in Clifton Park.
