Stony Brook, N.Y. - Taylor Lewis earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award, leading Maine to the 2011 America East Conference Baseball Championship title, defeating UAlbany, 10-1, at Joe Nathan Field on Friday afternoon. It was the third straight championship appearance for the Great Danes.

Maine jumped out quickly in the championship game, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Taylor Lewis hit a lead-off double through the right side and made it home on a UAlbany fielding error. Gaige led off the bottom of the frame for the Great Danes by drawing a walk, and then stealing second. Maine's Stephen Perakslis then hit Greg Muller, but followed with a strikeout to end the UAlbany threat.

With a solo home run in the bottom of the second, Ralph Rizzo tied the game up for the Great Danes, hitting a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence. UAlbany starter Matt Dybus issued a lead off walk in the top of the third, but catcher Martorelli gunned down the baserunner at second to get the first out of the frame. Dybus then issued a ground out and a fly out to get out of the inning unscathed. Maine added a second run in the top of the fourth to regain the lead, as Justin Leisenheimer recorded a sacrifice fly to right center to score Joey Martin. Dybus followed with three straight walks and then hit Troy Black to bring in Maine's third run. Lewis then knocked a two-run single through the middle to give the Black Bears a 5-1 advantage.

In the top of the seventh, Maine broke the game open with back-to-back home runs by Justin and Ian Leisenheimer. Justin cleared the bases with a three-run shot out to left field, while Ian's solo homer sailed out to almost the same spot in the outfield to give the Black Bears a 9-1 lead. Martin added an additional run for Maine in the top of the eighth with an RBI single to score Mike Fransoso.

Dybus took the loss for the Great Danes, scattering three hits and issuing four walks in three and two-thirds innings of work. Senior Terry McFadden, in his final appearance in a UAlbany uniform, threw the final inning for the Great Danes, striking out one without allowing a hit. Perakslis improved to 6-4 in the win, striking out eight over seven and a thirds innings.

Pitchers Zach Kraham, who tossed a complete-game win on Thursday, and Kasceim Graham, who also threw a complete-game win over Stony Brook in Friday's first game, along with senior third baseman Rizzo, all earned all-tournament team honors.

UAlbany wraps up the season with an overall record of 21-31. Maine (32-22), claiming its first America East title since 2006, has earned the league's automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.
