Albany, N.Y. - Tom Compitello had four of his five goals in the opening half in leading Stony Brook to a 15-0 victory over UAlbany in America East Conference play on Saturday, April 24 at John Fallon Field. The Seawolves, who have won five in a row, clinched a share of the conference's regular-season title.
Stony Brook (9-3, AE 4-0) scored four times in the opening eight-plus minutes to set the tone. Kevin Crowley found Kyle Belton at the top of the crease with a pass from behind the cage to ignite the run. Crowley, who had three goals and three assists, scored from the right point with a high shot after a failed clear. Jordan McBride scooped up a missed behind-the-back shot and deposited the ground ball into the net. Compitello ended that stretch by working around the cage and connecting on a bounce shot from right.
The Seawolves, who are ranked 12th nationally in both national polls, did not let up on the gas pedal in the second quarter. Compitello, a senior attackman, scored his third consecutive goal with three minutes and 54 seconds elapsed in the stanza when he picked up a blocked shot and scored from the right with an underhanded blast. McBride and Campbell added a pair of goals, before Compitello gave his team a 9-0 lead by halftime. He connected on another shot from the right, using a high-to-low motion, off Crowley's feed.
In the third quarter, Stony Brook stretched its advantage to double figures on extra-man goals by Graham Adams and Crowley. Meanwhile, starting goalkeeper Charlie Parr, who had 11 saves, and two other SBU goalies combined on the shutout in the most lopsided decision in the 21 meetings between these programs.
"It's tough," said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose squad fell to 3-10 overall and 2-2 in the conference. "We struggled to generate any offense. They played awesome and are a very skilled team. (Charlie) Parr made some nice saves, and had a great one in the second quarter on a fastbreak. We just have to rebound and get ready for Binghamton next weekend."
Compitello finished with five goals and two assists, one off his career-high point total. McBride, the nation's leading goal scorer, and Robbie Campbell, each had two goals.
"They hit us hard and we didn't fight back," UAlbany defenseman Brendan Gleason offered. "Lacrosse is about runs and we never got that first goal to get us going. We kept shooting ourselves in the foot."

Paw Prints:  Stony Brook has won three straight from the Great Danes ... UAlbany still holds a 12-9 advantage in the series ... the Great Danes met their seventh national top-20 team this season ...
