WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - Hartford's Amelia Pereira scored two as Hawks defeated UAlbany, 2-0, on Sunday, October 7. The Great Danes fall to 5-8-1 and 2-2 in the America East Conference, while the Hawks move to 5-0 in the conference and clinch a postseason berth.
Hartford (9-2-3, 5-0 America East) quickly got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute to grab the match's first lead, 1-0. Hawks forward Amelia Pereira was able to get into the box and take a low shot that would beat UAlbany goalkeeper Alana Brennan for the match's first goal.
UAlbany (5-8-1, 2-2 America East) would look to find an answer in the 35th minute when senior forward Shayla Bergeron took the Great Danes first shot of the match, but Hartford goalkeeper Erin Quinlan would deny the opportunity.
Down by one going into the second half, Great Dane defender Casey Marks looked to send the game's equalizing goal in the 53rd minute, but Quinlan would be there to make her second save of the match.
Then in the 76th minute, Hawks' Pereira would tally her second goal of the match and what would be the insurance goal to seal the deal. Arielle Aikens sent a volley into the box and Pereira would connect with her head for her conference leading 12th goal of the season.
Great Dane goalkeeper Alana Brennan tallied two saves on four chances in the match, while Hawks goalkeeper Erin Quinlan would also make two saves for her seventh clean sheet of the season.
UAlbany heads back home to face New Hampshire on Thursday, October 11 at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
