Miami, Fla. - Left fielder Rony Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead #12 Miami to a 12-5 win over UAlbany in non-conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park. With a three-game sweep by the Hurricanes, UAlbany falls to 0-3 on the season, while Miami improves to 7-0.
UAlbany starter Kasceim Graham went five and two-thirds innings on the mound, stricking out four opposing batters while allowing three earned runs. Four relievers saw action on the mound for the Great Danes, with Cameron Sorgie and Joey Moore each recording one strikeout in their outings. Miami got four strikeouts from starter Bryan Radziewski, who totaled six innings of work. Reliever Javi Salas fanned one opposing batter in one third of an inning of work for the Hurricanes.
Senior right fielder Pete DiResta went 3-for-4, with two solo home runs. Designated hitter Mike Tirri also recorded two of UAlbany's nine hits, driving in one run. Miami's Dale Carey also recorded three hits for the Hurricanes, while Michael Broad finished with two hits, including a double.
Miami scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first before UAlbany tied the game in the top of the second. The Hurricanes took a one-run lead in the following inning, before putting a bit of distance between the teams with three runs scored in the fourth, to take a 5-1 lead. After a single run by the Great Danes in the sixth, Miami responded with a single run in the bottom of the frame. UAlbany attempted a late rally in the eighth, scoring three runs, but Miami put six on the board in the bottom of the inning to set the final score.
UAlbany will return to action on Friday, March 2, visiting Wofford for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
