Miami, Fla. - Third baseman Esteban Tresgallo went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBI to lead #12 Miami to a 15-4 win over UAlbany in the Great Danes' season opener on Friday evening at Alex Rodriguez Park.
UAlbany racked up eight hits, led by shortstop Gordon Madej, who went 3-for-4 in his debut in a Great Dane uniform. Madej, who recorded a double in the game, was responsible for driving in three of UAlbany's four runs. First baseman Greg Muller, who also knocked out an extra-base hit for the Great Danes, recorded two hits, while centerfielder Nolan Gaige also finished with two hits.
On the mound, Zach Kraham earned the start, going five complete innings with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Austin Chase also fanned one opposing batter in one and two thirds innings of work, while Ryan White, Stephen Carey and Greg Lutton all made appearances on the mound.
The Hurricanes got a seven-inning outing from starter Eric Erickson, as he scattered four hits and struck out nine without allowing a run. Adam Sargent and Vince Kossak each saw an inning of work for Miami, allowing two runs apiece.
Miami finished with 13 hits, with three players getting multiple knocks. Along with Tresgallo, shortstop Michael Broad and right fielder Chantz Mack each recorded two hits. Catcher Peter O'Brien hit a home run for the Hurricanes, while Rony Rodriguez and Stephen Perez each recorded RBI triples.
UAlbany (0-1) and Miami (5-0) will return to action on Saturday for the second of the three-game series between the two teams with another 7 p.m. first pitch.
