The Great Danes responded with one run in the bottom of the third. Jeff Welsh led of with a triple into right field and came home on a ground out by Josy Espinal. The Red Storm added an additional run in the top of the fifth to hold an 8-1 advantage. Joe Panik knocked an RBI double down the right field line in the seventh to extend the St. John's lead.

In the seventh, Josh Nethaway led off with a single and the Great Danes got two on board with a walk issued to Jeff Welsh. The baserunners advanced on a passed ball before Rob Cervini recorded an RBI groundout that scored Nethaway. Joe Ilacqua then put up a sacrifice fly that scored Welsh, pulling the Great Danes to within 9-3. UAlbany tacked on three more runs in the eighth, as Pete DiResta and Greg Muller hit two straight doubles. Later in the inning, Nethaway drove a double to left center to send two more runs home.

Miguel Valcarcel made quick work of the UAlbany order in the bottom of the ninth getting three straight outs to seal up the win for the Red Storm. Ryan White took the loss for the Great Danes on the mound, striking out two but allowing seven runs over three innings of work.
