Nichole Eamer produced a career-high five points on the day with two goals and three assists. Mel Rorie and Jess Antelmi each collected three goals, as three of the six came off free position opportunities. Rachael Burek, Ariana Parker and Amanda Pollock tabbed one goal each.
Katie Ferris lead all scorers with six points in the game, tallying three goals and three assists off of six shots. Jesse O'Donnell picked up the fourth hat trick in the game with her three goals. Sarcona grabbed a team-best six draws, while Ali Houlis picked up three ground balls.
UMass (8-1) gained a 3-1 lead at 23:12 with Ferris' second in the game, but UAlbany (6-2) answered back with five consecutive goals to take a 6-3 lead heading into the final ten minutes of the first stanza. The teams would go goal-for-goal the remainder of the half with the Great Danes taking an 8-6 lead into the break.
Going scoreless the first six and change minutes of the second half, the Minutewomen collected two goals in 16 seconds to knot the game at 8-8 with 23:16 on the clock. Antelmi collected her third on the day with a free position shot to regain the lead at 9-8 with 22:37 on the clock before each team tallied once more each for a 10-all tie with 15:01 in the final stanza.
The teams played scoreless again for nearly ten minutes before O'Donnell tabbed her third in the game for a 11-10 lead for the Minutewomen; their second of the game. Rorie picked up the equalizer for the Great Danes with 3:35 remaining off a free position shot for the final tally of regulation.
Maintaining most of the possession in the overtime frames, the Minutewomen secured the win with Sacrona's goal with 16 seconds remaining in the first three-minute overtime period. The Great Danes could not connect in the second three-minute period to force the sudden-victory stanza.
The Great Danes, suffering their first loss at home since the 2010 season, held a 26-21 shot advantage and 15-7 ground ball edge. UMass controlled 17 of 27 draws and converted on both free position shots.
In goal, Anna Berman made six saves between the pipes in a complete game, while Katie Florence held on for the win with seven saves.
