Game Notes

Florida notes | UAlbany notes

Gainesville, Fla.- UAlbany women's lacrosse prepares for the No. 1 overall seed Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 12 at Donald R. Dizney Lacrosse Stadium (1 pm). This is the first meeting between the two squads and fifth overall meeting for the Danes against an America Lacrosse Conference opponent. UAlbany is 1-3 all-time against an ALC team with Northwestern being the most recent opponent. The Great Danes fell to the Wildcats in the 2011 NCAA Quarterfinals, 18-4, on May 21.

Florida (17-2) is coming off its first ever America Lacrosse Conference Championship win after defeating previous seven-time champion Northwestern, 14-7, on May 5. Shannon Gilroy, team's fifth leading scorer, led the Gators in their first ALC Championship with seven goals which was a single-game best by any player in the team's three year history.

Gator Players To Watch
- Brittany Dashiell, a Tewaaraton Award finalist, is fourth on the team in scoring (36 goals) and leads the team in assists (23).
- Mike Meagher, the primary Gator goalkeeper, leads the nation in both goals against average (7.15) and saves percentage (.529)

Dancing For A Second Time
-
UAlbany earned its second NCAA appearance after defeating Stony Brook in the America East Finals, 9-7. The Danes won its 2011 first round game against Dartmouth, 10-7. UAlbany eventually fell in the quarterfinals to Northwestern, 18-4.

Danes Defend Title
-
After giving up 16 goals, each to Boston U. and Stony Brook in regular-season losses, UAlbany avenged its losses and defeated both teams to be crowned America East Conference Tournament champions for the second time in as many seasons. The Great Danes had three different players score four goals in its semifinal win over BU. Then in the finals, UAlbany held the conference's top-scoring team, Stony Brook (14.38 gpg), to just seven goals.

A Dozen is Key
When Great Danes score at least 12 goals in a game, they are 8-0. UAlbany began the month of March scoring 12-plus goals in the first five games. The Great Danes needed 12 to clinch a playoff berth in the America East Tournament. The team is averaging 11.53 goals a game.
