UAlbany Menís Lacrosse Announces 14-Game 2017 Schedule, Including Hosting Maryland, Yale
ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team, participant in the last four NCAA Tournaments, has announced its schedule for the 2017 season, including six home games and contests against four reigning conference champions.
UAlbany is set for a 14-game regular season, including six home games and a six-game America East slate. UAlbany will be playing four conference champions including three at home, including reigning two-time national runner-up Maryland, 2016 Ivy League champion Yale and last year’s America East Tournament winner Hartford.
Three of UAlbany’s 2017 opponents, Maryland, Yale and Syracuse, are ranked in the top-10 of the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Rankings.
UAlbany will play three home games against Maryland, Yale and Hartford at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium and three more against UMass, UMass Lowell and UMBC at John Fallon Field.
"With three preseason top-10 teams on schedule plus a host of other very competitive programs, including league play, we embrace the challenge ahead of us in 2017,” said UAlbany head coach Scott Marr. “We welcome two of the three top-10 teams to Albany: Maryland for the first time in school history and Yale returns again. We couldn't be more excited to start the 2017 season."
Season tickets are available through the UAlbany ticket office at ualbanysports.com/tickets or at 518-442-DANE. Ticket packages are $50 for adults, which includes chairback seating for games played at Casey Stadium. Full season SEFCU Parking/season ticket packages are available for $75.
Multi-sport vouchers are available for $50. Vouchers are valid for bleacher seating and can be redeemed for both women’s basketball and men’s lacrosse.
Individual tickets for games at John Fallon Field are $7 for adults and $5 kids (12 & under). Games played at Casey Stadium are priced at $10 for adults and $7 for kids in bleacher seating areas. The men’s lacrosse team earned its fourth consecutive America East regular season title and an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament in 2016, finishing 12-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play. UAlbany narrowly fell to Syracuse 11-9 in the NCAA First Round last year. The Great Danes have played in the last four NCAA Tournaments, including making the quarterfinal round twice.
UAlbany comes into the season ranked at #13 in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off preseason rankings and #13 in the USILA Preseason Coaches Poll. Marr is back for his 17th season at the helm of the Great Danes. He returns four all-conference players, including USILA Third Team All-American and 2016 Tewaaraton nominee Connor Fields, and three America East All-Rookie Team members to this year’s team.
Before the season begins, UAlbany will host scrimmages against Colgate on February 4th and Princeton on February 11th.
The Great Danes will begin the year with its annual matchup against reigning ACC champion Syracuse in Carrier Dome on Saturday, February 18th at 3 p.m. This is a rematch of last year’s NCAA First Round game.
Next Saturday, February 25th, the team heads to Philadelphia for a game against Drexel, a CAA semifinalist last year, at 1 p.m.
UAlbany’s home opener is set for Wednesday, March 1st at John Fallon Field with a matchup against UMass at 3 p.m.
On Saturday, March 4th, UAlbany returns to Ithaca for a battle against Cornell at 1 p.m. Last meeting in Ithaca in 2015, UAlbany defeated the Big Red in the NCAA First Round.
UAlbany prepares to take on Maryland, the NCAA runner-up last two years and the defending Big Ten champion, at home on Saturday, March 11th at 3 p.m. at Casey Stadium. It is the first time the Great Danes and Terrapins will play against each other in the Capital District.
The Purple & Gold plays its next two games on the road, starting with the conference opener at Vermont on Saturday, March 18th at 1 p.m. Then on Tuesday, March 21st, the squad heads to Buffalo to take on Canisius, reviving the series after a year hiatus, at 4 p.m.
The Great Danes return to the Capital District for its conference home opener against third-year program UMass Lowell on Saturday, March 25th at 3 p.m.
Back on the road go the Great Danes for the next two contests. In the mid-week, UAlbany heads to Massachusetts to play Harvard on Wednesday, March 29th at 7 p.m. Then to Long Island for a Saturday night matchup against rival Stony Brook on April 1st at 7 p.m.
The team comes back for a Saturday afternoon home game on April 8th against UMBC at 1 p.m. at John Fallon Field.
After an 11-day break, UAlbany’s final road game in the regular season will be in the Southern Tier as the team plays Binghamton on Saturday, April 19th at 7 p.m.
UAlbany’s final two home games will be under the lights against defending conference champions at Casey Stadium. The Great Danes host Yale on Saturday, April 22nd at 7 p.m. Two years ago, UAlbany’s game vs. Yale featured a top-10 matchup and over 4,800 fans at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
Then next Saturday, April 29th, UAlbany takes on 2016 America East Tournament champion Hartford at 7 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s semifinal round.
The 2017 America East Tournament will be hosted by the conference’s regular season champion. The semifinals will be on Thursday, May 4th with the title game being on Saturday, May 6th. UAlbany has hosted the last two America East Tournaments.
