ALBANY, N.Y. -- Julie Forster recorded a double-double with game highs of 16 points and 18 rebounds, but UAlbany dropped its women's basketball season-opener, 60-43, on Friday evening at SEFCU Arena.

The Great Danes started the game with a 6-3 run, getting two baskets from Forster after Sarah Royals scored the opener. However, Fordham pushed back to take a lead on a jumper by Charlotte Stoddart, and built up a 17-6 advantage over the next five minutes. UAlbany finally ended the scoring drought on a 3-pointer by Royals, but Fordham kept the Great Danes at bay, holding onto an eight-point advantage, 21-13, on an Erin Rooney jumper with 6:36 left to play in the first half.

The Rams dominated the offensive boards throughout the first half, resulting in multiple second-chance opportunities. The Great Danes cut their deficit to five on a jumper by Ebone Henry, but Stoddart recorded a steal with under a minute to go, which Emily Tapio converted into a layup at the opposite end, giving Fordham a 24-17 lead at the half.

Fordham came out of the locker room and built up a 32-17 advantage on back-to-back 3-pointers by Arielle Collins and Rooney, before Royals ended the run with a long-range shot of her own with just over 17 minutes on the clock. Each time the Great Danes would get on a roll defensively, Fordham would find a way around it, and built up a 15-point advantage, 46-31, with 9:32 to play.

UAlbany cut the lead to single digits twice more in the late going, on a layup by Forster with 4:20 to go, and a bucket by Shareesha Richards with 3:43 on the clock . However, Fordham used strong free throw shooting down the stretch, going 8-for-10 from the line in the last 1:50. A pair of shots from the charity stripe by Collins with nine ticks to go sealed up the 17-point victory for the Rams.

Royals was the only other player to reach double-digit scoring totals for the Great Danes, netting 11, to go along with three assists and one steal. Henry totaled nine points, four boards, and three steals, while freshman Richards totaled seven points, five caroms, and three steals in her UAlbany debut.

Rooney led Fordham (1-0) with 15 points, while Collins added 14 points and seven boards. Stoddart and Collins each totaled 10 points for the Rams, while Tapio added nine points and a team-best 11 rebounds.

UAlbany (0-1) will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Long Island at SEFCU Arena at 7 p.m.
