Sareea Freeman Joins UAlbany Volleyball as an Assistant Coach

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sareea Freeman, a former standout volleyball and basketball player at Florida State, has been hired as an assistant coach for the UAlbany volleyball team, announced by head coach MJ Engstrom.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with MJ and this organization,” said Freeman. “I am excited to get to work, make a positive impact on this program and help student-athletes be successful in their career paths.”

“We are excited to have Sareea join the staff, she brings a wealth of knowledge in the realm of blocking,” said Engstrom. “She came to our attention as a player at FSU when we played against them twice in 2011, when they went to the Final Four.  She has an engaging personality and is great to work with, we look forward to having her with this program.”

Freeman served as a 6-foot-4 middle blocker at Florida State from 2009 through 2012, starting in her final three years.  She hit .356 in her career, earning 666 kills and 393 total blocks.  As a senior, she earned AVCA All-America honors after going second in the nation with a .438 hitting percentage, finishing with 268 kills and 111 blocks.  Freeman led the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament all four years, earning at least one NCAA victory in all four seasons including a Final Four appearance in 2011 and quarterfinal round showing in 2009.

After her volleyball career at FSU, she played professionally with the Vasas Volleyball Professional Sports Club in Budapest, Hungary.  She also played the 2013-14 season with the Florida State women’s basketball team.

She has strong coaching experience, managing the 17s and 18s travel teams of the Prostyle Volleyball Club the past two years, including being the head coach last year.  Previously she served as the head coach of the 15s team of the Tallahassee Juniors Volleyball Club in 2011.  She has worked numerous camps in the Florida area.

Freeman graduated from Florida State in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in psychology/child development.  She joins Brooke Stanley on the coaching staff, who is back for her second season with UAlbany.
