Men’s Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule Featuring Nine Home Games
2014 UAlbany Men’s Soccer Schedule
ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany men’s soccer head coach Trevor Gorman revealed the program’s 2014 schedule on Monday, with nine games at Bob Ford Field.
“We have an exciting schedule for 2014,” said Gorman. Every opponent we will face this season is a quality program that has enjoyed a tradition of high success. We look forward to hosting nine games at Bob Ford Field and hope to create a great home atmosphere. Our schedule this season will put us in the best position to challenge for success throughout the year.”
Gorman’s squad kicks off 2014 at James Madison in a neutral site match-up against Appalachian State. The Great Danes continue play in Harrisonburg, Va., against JMU at the end of August.
UAlbany hosts three consecutive home games to kick off September. The Purple & Gold faces in-state rival Colgate on Sept. 5 before taking on Monmouth on Sept. 7 and Iona on Sept. 12. The Great Danes meet Colgate for the first time since 2011, and host Monmouth and Iona after visiting both squads last season.
The Purple & Gold continues its September schedule with five games against teams out of five different conferences. In the first all-time meeting, UAlbany will visit the BIG EAST’s Villanova on Sept. 14, followed by Hartwick on Sept. 20 in Oneonta, N.Y. UAlbany hosts Lafayette in their first match since 2003, and hits the road for Rhode Island on Sept. 27.
Gorman’s squad wraps up September hosting NEC Champion St. Francis (N.Y.). The Great Danes earned their first program win against a nationally ranked opponent against fellow NEC member Fairleigh Dickinson by a score of 2-1 last season.
UAlbany opens America East play with Vermont at home on Oct. 4. The last time the teams met was in the America East Quarterfinals in Burlington last November. The Great Danes produced their largest offensive output in five years in a 5-1 win over the Catamounts to advance to the league semifinals.
The Purple & Gold meets Syracuse for the third-straight year to conclude nonconference play on Oct. 7. After two road games at UMass Lowell (Oct. 11) and New Hampshire (Oct. 15), UAlbany returns home to host UMBC on Oct. 18. UAlbany handed UMBC a 2-1 loss the last time the teams met in Albany.
The Great Danes host Stony Brook (Oct. 24) and Binghamton (Nov. 5) for the final two home games of 2014, separated by a road contest at Hartford on Nov. 1.
