Women’s Basketball To Host Eighth Annual Commitment To Education Day Thursday
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s basketball program will host the program’s eighth annual Commitment to Education Day, sponsored by SEFCU and CDPHP, Thursday at noon. The Great Danes will take on the University of New Hampshire in a key America East Conference contest.
Over 1,800 students and teachers from 19 Capital Region area schools will be in attendance at SEFCU Arena.
"Commitment to Education Day is a major event that combines excellence in service, academics, athletics and leadership,” said Dr. Lee McElroy, Vice-President and Director of Athletics.
“Schools and students from the Capital District interact with our staff, student-athletes and coaches to promote dedication and discipline in support of positive educational outcomes."
UAlbany will welcome Brighter Choice Middle School for Boys (Albany), Brighter Choice Middle School for Girls (Albany), Brighter Choice Charter School for Girls (Albany), Lynwood Elementary School (Guilderland), Keane Elementary School (Schenectady), Woodlawn Elementary School (Schenectady), Arbor Hill Elementary School (Albany), Abram Lansing Elementary School (Cohoes), Central Park Magnet School (Schenectady), Zoller Middle School (Schenectady), Academy of the Holy Names, Harmony Hill (Cohoes), Brighter Choice Charter School for Boys (Albany), Pine Hills (Albany), Elmer Avenue (Schenectady), Lincoln Elementary (Schenectady), Mother Teresa School, Pleasant Valley School (Schenectady), and Van Corlaer Elementary School (Schenectady).
Prior to the 12 p.m. tip-off, the schoolchildren will tour UAlbany athletic facilities, beginning at 10 a.m. An array of Great Dane coaches and student-athletes will serve as guides, teaching areas pertinent and imperative to college athletics, including academics, nutrition, and sportsmanship.
In addition, students will receive a t-shirt, poster, and program to commemorate the experience.
