Lane, Del Fava Earn All-Conference Honors
VESTAL, N.Y. – Brittney Lane and Silvia Del Fava have been named to the America East All-Conference cross country team for their performances at the America East Championship race on Saturday. The honor is awarded to each of the top 10 athletes to finish the race at the conference championship.
Lane placed second overall with a school record time of 17:33.34 for 5K, improving on the previous school record by three seconds. She also holds the school record for 6K at 20:24.2, which she set a year ago at the Northeast Regional Championship. Lane has finished first for UAlbany in four of the five competitions on the year, and was named America East Performer of the Week three times, the most of any America East woman.
Del Fava placed third overall behind Lane on Saturday, finishing in 17:43.96, making her the third fastest 5K athlete in UAlbany history. Earlier this year she ran the second fastest time ever at UAlbany for 6K when she finished in 20:39.2 at LehighUniversity’s Paul Short Invitational. Del Fava also earned America East Performer of the Week honors, winning the award after her performance at Paul Short.
Lane and Del Fava have proven to be a potent duo for UAlbany, helping the team break into the Northeast Regional poll for the second time ever in Week 2 this season. The Danes have held the 15th spot in the rankings since then, thanks in part to Lane’s and Del Fava’s performances. UAlbany placed fourth overall at the America East Championship, falling to New Hampshire, Stony Brook, and Vermont. All three teams also hold spots in the Northeast rankings.
Next up for UAlbany is the Northeast Regional Championship, which will see the Danes return to historic Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Friday, November 15.
