Men’s Basketball Posts Highest Team GPA In America East Conference
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University at Albany men’s basketball program capped off an incredible 2012-13 season with an impressive feat off the court. The Great Danes tallied the highest team grade point average among the America East Conference’s men’s basketball programs. UAlbany, who took home its third America East Tournament Title, posted an eye-popping 3.22 cumulative GPA.
"Our players continue to do a tremendous job in the classroom," said head coach Will Brown. "We take great pride in recruiting high character kids who value an education. My staff and our Academic Support Team are heavily involved and deserve a lot of credit as well. This is a great way to finish off a successful year."
Jacob Iati, the team’s graduate student, held a strong 3.43 GPA in his pursuit for a master’s in business administration at UAlbany. Iati was given the America East/SEFCU Postgraduate Scholar Athlete of the Year Award and is currently doing a 10-week internship with J.P Morgan. Along with Iati, Sam Rowley was named to the 2013 America East All-Academic Team. The Sydney, Australia native recorded the team’s highest GPA amongst players with at least 20 minutes of playing time with a 3.72 GPA.
This is the fourth time under Coach Brown that the Great Danes have held the highest GPA among the conference's men's basketball programs. UAlbany has previously accomplished this honor in the 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2011-12 seasons.
