No. 12 Men’s Lacrosse Draws Denver In NCAA First Round
ALBANY, N.Y. – 12th-ranked University at Albany (13-4) drew third-ranked Denver (12-4) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 5. The Pioneers will host the Great Danes on Saturday, May 11 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for us to get a chance to compete for a National Championship,” said Coach Marr on being placed in the NCAA Tournament. “I think playing Denver is a great matchup, I like how they play because of how similar to our style.”
UAlbany and Denver have met twice before with the Pioneers winning both contests. The Great Danes first met the Pioneers back on Feb. 21, 2009 at John Fallon Field, falling 10-9. Then UAlbany traveled to Peter Barton Stadium on Feb. 27, 2010 and fell 17-13.
The Great Danes are 1-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The program’s first win came against Loyola on May 13, 2007, 19-10, at John Fallon Field. UAlbany’s four other previous opponents were Cornell (L, 12-11 OT on 5/19/07), Virginia (23-9 on 5/14/05), Syracuse (L, 21-13 on 5/16/04) and Princeton (L, 16-10 on 5/10/03).
