Men's Track And Field Boasts Six Victors At Dog Fight
STORRS, Conn. – In the fourth annual Dog Fight Saturday, the UConn Huskies took first place in the meet, narrowly topping the University at Albany men’s track and field team, 105-94. The Huskies now hold a 3-1 all-time record against the Great Danes.
Despite the final score, there were a number of individual achievements for UAlbany’s athletes, including James Somers qualifying for USA Junior Nationals in June in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The freshman came in third overall with a time of 9:36.52.
Teammate Ethan Clary won the steeplechase title for the second consecutive meet, running a time of 9:16.34.
Sophomore John DeLallo also placed first in the 1500m run, breaking into the top 10 best performances in UAlbany’s history with his 3:50.45 mark.
Other top-finishers for UAlbany included freshman Taariq Jones (48.68) in the 400m dash, Christopher Buchanan (14:48.62) in the 5000m run, Shane Wagner (54.50) in the 400m hurdles, and Alexander Bowen (6’ 10.75”) in the high jump.
The Great Danes return to action next Saturday when they compete in the Upstate Track and Field Classic at RPI, as well as the UTECH Classic in Kingston, Jamaica.
