Men’s Track And Field Takes On UConn In 4th Annual Dog Fight Saturday

ALBANY, N.Y. – After a week’s hiatus from competition, the University at Albany men’s track and field team travels to Storrs, Conn. Saturday. The men will take on UConn in the fourth annual Dog Fight beginning at 10:00 a.m.

ABOUT THE DOG FIGHT
Despite 10 UAlbany victories in 18 events at last year’s Dog Fight, UConn edged the Great Danes by 13 points, 105-92, to take a 2-1 all-time series lead. UAlbany will look to even the score this weekend against the Huskies, who rank fourth in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Northeast Region.

REGIONAL RANKINGS
Already boasting some of the top marks in the nation, UAlbany earned a No. 7 rank in the Week 1 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Northeast Region rankings. The Great Danes totaled a score of 332.95 in the index.

TOPS IN THE FIELD
With two meets in the books this spring, UAlbany is led by Alexander Bowen’s record breaking 7’3” high jump mark at the 7th Annual Carolina Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico (3/16), which ranks second in the region and sixth in the nation. Fellow field athlete Alfonso Scannapieco captured a pole vault victory at the UCF Invitational with an IC4A qualifying and America East Performer of the Week reaping mark of 17’ 0.75”. That height is tops in the conference and third in the Northeast.

GOING THE DISTANCE
Also garnering America East Performer of the Week honors, senior Ethan Clary earned a victory in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the UCF Invitational (3/23), pacing the field with a time of 9:13.67, ranking fourth in the Northeast Region.

QUICK OUT OF THE BLOCKS
In the 400m dash, senior Alex Petit-Frere (48.05) has the second-best regional mark, followed closely by freshman Taariq Jones’s fifth ranked 48.86 time. Also running well, junior Kareem Morris ranks fourth in the region with his time of 10.79 in the 100m dash, done at the UCF Invitational.
