Men's Basketball Headed To Hartford For America East Conference Contest
THE STARTING FIVE
1. Headed To Hartford
UAlbany wraps up its mini road trip of two conference games in a week away from SEFCU against Hartford in West Hartford, Conn. on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Chase Family Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Great Danes swept the home-and-home series by an average of 18 points a game last season and lead the all-time series, 17-10.
2. Successful Lineup Change
Since the loss at Vermont, Coach Brown tampered with the lineup to look for more offensive production. In three games following the switch, the Great Danes have won three straight games, averaging 71.6 points on the offensive end and holding opponents to 61.3 points per game
3. Can't Stop This Aussie
Sophomore forward Sam Rowley is taking advantage of every opportunity ever since he has been installed into the starting lineup. On Wednesday against New Hampshire, Rowley tallied his third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in as many games. Through the first five conference contests, the Sydney, Australia native is averaging a double-double with 11.3 points and 10.0 rebounds a game.
4. Batman Returns
Senior guard Mike Black (Batman) fell into a bit of a funk to begin conference play with his supporting cast lifting him up when he needed it. Now Black has found a shooting rhythme, recording back-to-back 20-plus point performances (28 vs. Maine, 20 vs. UNH). The Chicago, Ill. native is not just scoring but shooting efficiently from the floor at 53.6 percent (15-28) and from the free-throw line at 87.5 percent (14-16).
5. Home Away From Home
The Great Danes three Australians, Rowley, Luke Devlin and Peter Hooley are averaging better numbers on the road than at home. The three Aussies are averaging a combined 21.1 points and 12.5 rebounds on the road compared to their 16.6 points and 9.9 rebounds at SEFCU Arena.
