The Starting Five

1. Beginning 1-0
UAlbany begins the 2012-13 season 1-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season, which was the last time the Great Danes appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Since the 2001-02 season, UAlbany has started its season 1-0 three times, two of which resulted in trips to the big dance.

2. 300
Thad Matta (Ohio State) and Lorenzo Romar (Washington) will be coaching their respective teams against UAlbany this upcoming two games. Both coaches have accumulated at least 300 wins as head coaches in their careers.

3. Stand Up Big Men
For a season that people outside the program expected its most production from the backcourt were mistaken when the Great Danes played their season opener. Juniors Luke Devlin, John Puk, and sophomore Sam Rowley combined for 31 of the team's 69 points against Duquesne. The trio tallied 19 of the team's 35 rebounds, as well, to show how good the front court can play this season.

4. Unselfish Play
The Great Danes showed in its season opener that no one will have a problem sharing the spotlight with their teammate. Six players against Duquesne dished out at least one assist. Five of those six players tallied at least two assists for a team total 13 assists.

5. Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament
UAlbany is one of eight teams participating in the 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. The field includes Ohio State, Washington, Seton Hall, Rhode Island, UMKC, Norfolk St., and Loyola (Md.). The Great Danes will play Ohio State and Washington at their respective arenas, while playing UMKC and either Norfolk St./Loyola (Md.) in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
