Vermont Edges UAlbany, 1-0, On Senior Day
ALBANY, N.Y. - Vermont's D.J Edler scored the match's lone goal in the 28th minute that was just enough to edge out UAlbany, 1-0, on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Great Danes hold their own destiny going into the final conference match for a spot in the America East Conference Tournament. With a win or a tie against Hartford on Saturday, will lock UAlbany (5-11, 2-4 America East) into one of the final spots for the conference tournament.
The match began with a constant back-and-forth between both teams in the middle third of the field for the first 27 minutes. Then in the 28th minute, a Vermont (7-4-5, 4-0-2 America East) offensive player launched a shot in the box. As a UAlbany defender blocked the incoming shot, Catamount forward Edler picked up the rebound and sent a quick shot past UAlbany goalkeeper Tim Allen.
The Great Danes looked to bounce back down 1-0 going into the second half. UAlbany's chances came between the 72nd and 74th minutes. Great Dane defender Christoffer Nisser sent a shot on net, but was denied by Vermont goalkeeper Conor Leland. Then in the 74th minute off of a free kick, UAlbany defender Dominic McGarr redirected the free kick with his head but Leland was there to make his second consecutive save.
