BUFFALO, N.Y. - Maksym Kowal's two goals led Buffalo past UAlbany, 2-1, on Friday, September 21 at UB Stadium. The Great Danes look ahead to Sunday's match against crosstown rival Siena, which will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports.
Buffalo edged UAlbany in shots, 17-15 and corner kicks 7-5.
The Bull's Kowal opened up the match, in the seventh minute, when teammate Jesse Andoh crossed a pass from 18 yards into the box and found Kowal's head to direct the shot in the back of the net. Just 15 minutes later, Kowal scored his second of the match in the 22nd minute. Teammate Patrick Ryan sent a thru pass up the middle to Kowal who snuck a shot right past charging goalkeeper Tim Allen.
UAlbany was able stop the bleeding in the 42nd minute to cut the deficit to one, 2-1. Pomare Te Anau took the Great Danes free kick and sent it into the box then teammate Brandon Wilson. Wilson then chipped a pass to co-captain Jeff Pierre to head in his first goal of the season.
"We created a lot of opportunities tonight and pressed the game for sustained periods", said head coach Trevor Gorman on the road loss. "Ultimately thought, a 2-0 hole on the road is difficult to overcome and we need to avoid that scenario moving forward".
Buffalo held onto the match for the final 48 minutes to secure its second win of the season.
UAlbany goalkeeper Tim Allen made six saves on eight chances. Buffalo goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi tallied six saves on seven chances.
