LINCROFT, N.J. -- Chris Buchanan took the individual title with a time of 19:28.6 to lead UAlbany to a second-place team finish at the season-opening Monmouth University XC Kick-Off held at Thompson Park on Saturday. The Great Danes garnered 49 team points to finish just behind NYU, which took the team title with 37 points.
James Sommer was UAlbany's other top-10 finisher, crossing the line in fourth in 19:39.5. Brandon Camenzuli took 13th place overall in 20:01.7 before a pack of four Great Danes crossed the line in a span of 20 seconds. The group was led by Ray Fainella in 15th in 20:03.9, followed by Dylan Lowry (16th, 20:11.2), Jon Moore (17th, 20:13.5) and Ryan Scarpelli (18th, 20:24.6).
John DeLallo just missed being a part of that group of UAlbany runners, as he crossed in 20th in a time of 20:25.2. Zach Cook placed 27th overall in 20:33.6, while Andrew Pirnie came home ten runners later in 20:51.3. Ryan Florkiewicz (46th, 21:03.9) and Nick Santos (47th, 21:08.3) wrapped up the UAlbany runners.
Monmouth finished third in the team standings with 93 points, followed closely by Wagner with 94 points. Saint Francis (NY) (121 points), Seton Hall (159 points) and Drew University (207 points) wrapped up the seven-team race.
UAlbany will continue it's season on Sept. 14th at the America East Pre-Championship Meet at New Hampshire
