CULLOWHEE, N.C.- UAlbany foward Chelsea DeVerna's goal just three minutes into the match was not enough against Western Carolina, as UAlbany fell 3-1 on Friday, August 31. The loss puts the Great Danes at 0-2-1 on the season and the Catamounts improve to 2-2. UAlbany will look to end its two-game road skid against UNC-Asheville on Sunday.

Western Carolina (2-2) started the pace early for the match as the offense pushed the ball early into the UAlbany defense. After a shot blocked by a Great Dane defender, Kimberly Sullivan took the rebound and redirected into the back off the net in the third minute of the game.

UAlbany (0-2-1) responded as Chelsea DeVerna was able to tie the match up just nine seconds after Western Carolina put in its first goal. DeVerna found the back of the net from about 10 yards out.

But the Catamounts Sullivan came back with her second goal of the match in the 17th minute. Sullivan used teammate's Lauren Greb's cross to give Western Carolina the 2-1 lead.

The Great Danes looked to tie the match up rattling three shots (one on net), with forward Shayla Bergeron coming the closest in the 86th minute with UAlbany's lone shot on net.

Western Carolina's Greb would tally her first goal of the match in the 88th minute to give the Catamounts an insurance goal and lock up its second win of the season.

UAlbany goalkeeper Jacky Ubert tallied a season-high seven saves on 10 chances but fell to 0-2-1 on the season. Western Carolina goalkeeper Katie Jacobs needed to make just three saves on four chances to grab her second win and improve to 2-2 overall.

The Catamounts led in both shots on goal, 10-4, and corner kicks, 5-2, for the game.
