ALBANY, N.Y.- UAlbany men's soccer prepares to host the Towson Tigers on Saturday, September 1 (7pm) at The Turf at Union College. This will be the first of five games the Great Danes host an opponent under the lights this year. However, all seven home games will be played away from home due to construction of the new Multi-Sport Complex being built over their pre-existing field.
This is the fourth meeting between the two teams with the Tigers taking all three games 3-0. The last time the Great Danes faced off against the Tigers was on September 20, 2011 in Towson, Md. as Towson downed UAlbany, 4-1.
• UAlbany played a tough match on the road against Syracuse with the final 2-0. Having co-captain Jeff Pierre recovering from off-season hip surgery and Quintel Gates out resting a minor injury, the Great Danes were able to hold the Orange to a 0-0 tie at half. With a small miscue of an own-goal and a two-on-one goal in the 50th minute proved to be too much for UAlbany to overcome.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Towson, a CAA affliated team, fell to Monmouth, 1-0, in its season opener. The Tigers will look again to their talented junior forward, Olakunle Banjo, to help them defeat the Great Danes on Saturday. Banjo tallied two goals and one assist against UAlbany in the 4-1 victory Towson had last season.
Dominic McGarr and Jeff Pierre were honored as the 2012 UAlbany men's soccer captains this season. Both McGarr and Pierre played in all of the team's 19 games last season. McGarr will man the well-experienced back line this season and Pierre will look to lead the midfielders after the departure of senior captains Anthony DeSalvo and David Pinto
