Honolulu, Hawai'i - UAlbany won the first set, but dropped the next three en route to a 3-1 loss to St. Mary's in the final match of the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the University of Hawaii's Stan Sheriff Center on Sunday evening. The Great Danes were represented on the All-Tournament Team by libero Viktoriia Stroilo.
Sophomore Sara Pope led the Great Danes with 11 kills and completed the first double-double of her career with 10 digs, while also adding two block assists. The senior trio of Traci Vandegrift, Dunja Prgomet and Gabby Whitworth recorded nine kills apiece. Vandegrift led the team with 16 digs and added four block assists, while Prgomet came up with 12 digs. Sophomore setter Sofia Furlong also recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 16 digs, while Stroilo had 14 digs and one service ace. UAlbany had 10 total blocks, led by Tatum Jungsten with six block assists.
Lauren Corp and Kristina Graven had 16 kills each for St. Mary's (1-2). Setter Dalas Dodd had a double-double for the Gaels with 51 assists and 11 digs. St. Mary's was led defensively by Sarah Reams with 17 digs. The Gaels had 11 total blocks as a team, with Katie Reininger recording six block assists.
UAlbany (0-3) will return to action over the weekend, traveling to Minnesota's Diet Coke Classic. The Great Danes will take on Long Island, Miami (OH) and the host Gophers.
