Starkville, Miss. - University at Albany's Gina Mason has been chosen to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region Team, as announced on Thursday, May 19 by the national organization. Mason, a senior first baseman from Sacramento, Calif., was a second-team selection.
     Mason was named All-America East Conference for the third consecutive season and was voted to the first team for the second year in a row. She ranks third among the conference leaders in batting average (.420) and slugging percentage (.664). Mason adds 27 runs, 19 extra-base hits, including five home runs, and 29 RBIs. She is tied for second on the program's all-time list in home runs (26) and is second in RBIs with 129.
     Mason led UAlbany (28-21) to the America East Conference tournament championship and a share of the league's regular-season crown. The Great Danes earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2007. UAlbany will make its fourth NCAA appearance in Friday's first-round matchup with No. 12 Oregon at 2:30 p.m. The University Park, Pa. Regional, hosted by Penn State, is a double-elimination tournament.
