Short Story: Led by 18 points and 13 rebounds by Alexi Schecter, the UAlbany women’s basketball team snapped its five-game skid with a 70-53 victory over Canisius on Wednesday.
- Schecter’s 13 rebounds are a career high, and the senior also tallied her third career double-double.

The University at Albany women’s basketball team got back in the win column Wednesday afternoon with a 70-53 victory over Canisius, snapping its five-game losing streak.
The matchup against Canisius marked the Great Danes’ first of two straight games on the road before returning back home to take on Fairleigh Dickenson Florham on Wednesday, December 4.
For the second straight game, Schecter kicked off proceedings, converting on her first layup attempt. Canisius answered back in the next minute, but the Great Danes pulled ahead 7-2 after another layup by Schecter and a three-pointer by Kyara Frames.
UAlbany kept things rolling in the first, stretching its lead to 11-2 with 4:17 remaining after a layup by Haegerstrand. Canisius cut the deficit to three with a 13-7 run towards the end of quarter, but the Great Danes continued to lead 18-15.
Schecter continued her scoring ways to start the second with a quick layup to give UAlbany a 20-15 advantage. The Golden Griffins answered back on a jumper to trim the lead, but Kumsal Aslan kept the Great Danes ahead with a layup with 7:18 remaining, her first points of the season. A few minutes later, Izzy Om hit a big three-pointer which led the Great Danes on an 18-9 run, and went into halftime boasting a 40-26 lead.
The Great Danes continued to stay ahead of the Golden Griffins in the third quarter, and began to pull away 52-32 with five minutes remaining after back-to-back three pointers by Kantzy. UAlbany stretched its lead to its biggest of the day at the end of the quarter by 22 points, heading into the fourth up 58-36.
Schecter and Kantzy led the way in the fourth quarter, giving the Great Danes a 64-40 lead, its largest of the day at 24 points with five minutes remaining. The Golden Griffins went on a 13-6 run towards the end, but the Great Danes were able to hold on for the 70-53 win.
UAlbany will head to Central Connecticut State on Sunday, December 1. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
