Coach Gorman: “Unfortunately tonight wasn’t our best effort. We started passively and allowed Hartford to gain confidence and a lead. We battled to get back in to it but have to accept we didn’t quite do enough. We will have to learn from this and use it in a positive way moving forward.”
The UAlbany men’s soccer team fell short to Hartford in its America East opener Friday night by a score of 1-0.
In the first half, the Hawks got on the board in the 14th minute when Rasmus Karlsson was able to beat Hjerten low for a 1-0 lead.
Austin DaSilva took the Great Danes’ shot on goal in the first, but the Hartford goalkeeper was able to make the save.
In the second half, the Great Danes came close to scoring the equalizer on multiple free kick opportunities. In the 73rd minute, Niklas Roessler missed left on a shot and then DaSilva took a shot in the 82nd and it was blocked in front.
UAlbany had a late push in the 89th and 90th minute with shots on goal by Hafliði Sigurðarson and Roessler, but the Hartford goalkeeper was able to make the saves.
UAlbany will head to Syracuse on Tuesday, October 1. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
