Key stats

Coach Sykes: “It’s great to be back home after a long road swing. Playing five consecutive games on the road really builds a team’s character and helps them to overcome adversity. We had a shaky first quarter but after settling into the game and the comfort of our home turf, we really turned it around and played a much better game.”

Recap

The Great Danes’ offense put on a show on Friday afternoon, tallying eight total goals in a win against non-conference foe Sacred Heart.

Juniors Cosima Rocktaeschel and Katie MacCallum combined for 13 points in the outing, coming off four goals and five assists.

Rocktaeschel finished the day with a career-high eight points (3g, 2a) and her first career hat trick, while MacCallum was UAlbany’s top playmaker, posting a personal-best three assists.

Baylee Burghardt tallied a pair of goals in the win as the forward continues to build on her stong senior campaign. Through nine games so far this season, Burghardt has already set career highs in goals (4) and points (8).

UAlbany held a 2-1 lead after the opening quarter behind goals from MacCallum and Rocktaeschel. Burghardt then added to the total with a tally in the second quarter as the Great Danes held a 3-1 advantage at the half.

The Great Danes erupted for five goals in the second half, including three in the third quarter, thanks to goals from Dana Bozek, Rocktaeschel and Lillian Hickey.

Burghardt made it a 7-1 game at 49:52 in the fourth and Rocktaeschel rounded out the scoring with her third goal at 52:13.

Up next: The Great Danes return to Alumni Field on Sunday, September 29 against Wagner. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
