Great Danes Fall at Cincinnati 2-1

Short story: Despite taking a quick 1-0 lead in the second half, the University at Albany men’s soccer team fell short 2-1 against Cincinnati.

Coach Gorman: I thought we did a lot of good things tonight. After the first 20 minutes we gained control of the game, went 1-0 up, and hit the post. Unfortunately, we allowed the equalizer and a set piece goal. We are a new team coming together and these experiences will serve us well.”
The University at Albany men’s soccer team suffered its second straight defeat by one goal, falling to Cincinnati by a score of 2-1 Monday night.
In the first meeting between the two teams, both had opportunities in the first half but neither were able to convert. The Bearcats held a 6-1 advantage in shots up until the 20th minute. UAlbany was able to get more scoring chances, starting in the 29th minute when Austin DaSilva took a shot that went top right and the Cincinnati goalkeeper made the save.
The Great Danes had four corner kicks in the first half to Cincinnati’s one. UAlbany had its best opportunities on corners in the 33rd and 35th minute, but both header attempts were sent over the goal.
UAlbany got off to a quick start in the second half, having two corner kick opportunities in the 45th and 46th minute. After having most of the possession to start, in the 48th minute the Great Danes got on the board after Kaio DaSilva was able to cut through the Cincinnati defense, pass the ball to Hugo Guerra on the left side of the box where he was beat the goalkeeper, and tally his first goal of the season.
The Great Danes were close to a having a 2-0 lead after header from Kaio DaSilva off a free kick hit the right post of the Cincinnati goal in the 57th minute.
The Bearcats responded back 10 minutes later, when Creggton Charlton received a pass and took a quick shot from the left of the box.
Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead in the 66th minute after a yellow card went against the Great Danes, the team was able to take advantage of the scoring opportunity.
The Great Danes had chances after the Bearcats’ second goal, taking two shots that the goalkeeper made key saves on in the 66th and 72nd minute.
