Coach Bochette: “No doubt we’re disappointed at another tough result today against a hard-nosed and talented Northeastern team in their home opener.  We showed clear progress in some aspects of our game, however, and played quite well for large portions of the game.  As we continue to get healthy and to grow as a team, we’re really excited to be progressing in areas we’ve previously struggled in.  This was a good, competitive game, and one we will continue to learn from.”

Recap

The University at Albany women’s soccer team conceded a goal in the 81st minute at Northeastern Sunday, falling to the Huskies 1-0.

UAlbany’s first opportunity came early with a corner kick in the third minute.  The Great Danes’ recorded their first shot in the fifth minute, when sophomore Jasmine Colbert’s attempt was saved by Northeastern goalkeeper Megan Adams.

The Great Danes and the Huskies played a scoreless first half, with each team recording four shots.  As was the case in the Danes’ season opener at Oklahoma on Thursday, UAlbany recorded three corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the half.

Shots increased for both teams in the second half, with UAlbany taking six and Northeastern taking eight.  The Great Dane defense withstood unscathed a stretch of 53 seconds in which the Huskies took three corner kicks starting in the 75th minute.

Northeastern broke through in the 81st with a goal from Emily Evangelista, who found the back of the net from the left side of the box.  Northeastern would go on to win by a final score of 1-0, dropping UAlbany to 0-2 on the season.

UAlbany defeated Northeastern for the first time in eight Division I-era meetings last season, and are now 1-8 against the Huskies since 1999 following Sunday’s result.

Up next: UAlbany visits Army West Point on Thursday, August 29 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
