UAlbany Athletics Announces 2019 Hall of Fame Class

ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany has announced today its 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame class: Teresa Covert (track & field), Brian Lillis (men’s basketball), Paul Roche (track & field), Steve Wyland (baseball) and the 2007 baseball team.

The class will be honored at the annual Great Danes Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday, Oct. 18, on the floor of the SEFCU Arena as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. Teresa Covert

Track & Field, 2000-04

The program’s first NCAA Division I women’s qualifier, Covert was a six-time America East Conference champion and the ECAC Champion in the 100 high hurdles. She also was the school record-holder in the indoor 60HH and outdoor 100HH, and she owned the top times in school history in the 100 (11.55) and 100HH (13.30). She ranked as the third-best scorer in America East history with 107 points.

Brian Lillis

Basketball, 2004-08

Lillis served as a team captain three times and helped the Great Danes make two NCAA Tournament appearances. He was the 2007 America East Defensive Player of the Year and an All-America East First-Team player in 2007-08. In addition to being the program’s Division I career steals leader with 169, Lillis scored 925 career points and averaged 16.1 per game as a senior. He also was a two-time member of the America East All-Academic team.

Paul Roche

Track & Field, 2004-05

One of the most dominant multis athletes in program history, Roche held the program record in the pentathlon. He also held top 25 rankings in seven events and ranked fourth in program history with 107.00 points in championship meets. He won five America East individual titles and earned 16 all-conference honors during his career.

Steve Wyland

Baseball, 2004-07

A career .347 hitter, Wyland hit seven home runs and compiled 108 RBIs. In his 174 career games, he worked 113 walks. His 211 career hits ranked as fourth most in program history, and his 76 hits in 2007 were the highest single-season total in program history. He also scored 142 career runs, the sixth most in program history.

2007 Baseball

After winning five of its final six league games, the 2007 baseball team captured the program’s first America East championship, beating Binghamton 1-0 to advance to the NCAA Tournament, where the Great Danes faced Arkansas and Creighton. The team had five players named to the America East All-Conference team. Steve Wyland led a lineup that hit .282 combined with a .388 batting average, five home runs and 45 RBIs, while starting pitcher John Naples was 8-3 with a 3.71 earned-run average.
