Woods Shining in Advanced A
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former University at Albany pitcher Stephen Woods, who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2016, is currently playing for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, the Tampa Bay Rays Advanced A affiliate.
Woods, who was traded to the Rays organization in a deal that included Evan Longoria in 2017, has gone 7-1 in 2019 with a 2.05 ERA in 11 appearances. He has thrown 52.2 innings with 44 strikeouts and 22 walks. Woods was promoted to Advanced A on April 1 from the Rays A affiliate, the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
The highest drafted player to come out of the UAlbany program, Woods was originally drafted out of high school in the sixth round of the 2013 draft by Tampa Bay, before electing to attend college instead.
In his minor league career, Woods has gone 14-10 with a 2.78 ERA with 194 strikeouts and 108 walks over 197.2 innings.
