UAlbany alum Blaze Riorden tops PLL goalies
ALBANY, N.Y. — Five weeks into the Premier Lacrosse League’s debut season, University at Albany alum Blaze Riorden leads the league with a .561 save percentage.
Riorden, a four-year starter and the program’s Division I saves leader (849) who graduated in 2016, plays for the PLL’s Chaos with five other former Great Danes: Connor Fields (12 goals, five assists), Miles Thompson (15 goals, nine assists), Kyle McClancy (two goals), Troy Reh (four goals, three assists), and Joe Resetarits.
Riorden has started all five games in goal, helping the Chaos to a 4-1 mark.
The Fairport, N.Y., native also competes in the National Lacrosse League, playing forward for the Philadelphia Wings. He finished this past season with 23 goals and 31 assists in 17 games.
UAlbany alumni Brett Queener, who has made 15 saves over four appearances, and Ty Thompson (three goals, two assists) also are playing in the league for Chrome LC.
The PLL makes its stop at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday: Atlas vs. Chaos, 8 p.m.
Sunday: Whipsnakes vs. Archers, 1:30 p.m.
Redwoods vs. Chrome, 4:30 pm.
