Coach Mueller: “I thought we played pretty good defense today. We had that one miscue in the middle of the game but on the mound we were very good. It was a big opportunity for Connor Morrisroe getting the start. We wanted him to go a couple of innings and he did that. I thought Connor Takacs was great and John Clayton was tremendous. We didn’t have to go deep into our pen after him. We haven’t really had leads this year, and when we have, we haven’t extended them. We were able to extend today’s lead in the middle of the game and we had a lot of different guys contribute today.”

The University at Albany baseball team won its second-straight America East series on Sunday, taking the final game in a three-game series against UMBC after splitting Saturday’s doubleheader. The Great Danes put seven runs on the board today, while limiting UMBC’s offense to just two runs and five hits.
UMBC got on the board quickly with one run in the top of the first. UAlbany responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Travis Collins worked a walk after drawing a full count, and scored when Kevin Donati hit a triple to right-center in the next at-bat. Donati proceeded to score when Matt Codispoti hit a single down the left field line to put UAlbany up 2-1. The Great Danes would proceed to load the bases following Codispoti’s RBI single, chasing out UMBC starting pitcher Tanner Esposito, but could not take advantage of the opportunity further.
UMBC tied the game at two, crossing the plate once in the top of the second. The Great Danes took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the third. Donati worked a leadoff walk and was driven in by Marc Wangenstein two batters later on a two-run home run.
UAlbany added insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. Kenny Hayden led off the fourth with an infield single to the shortstop, and advanced to second on a wild pitch in the next at bat. With one out, Collins hit a single to right, scoring Hayden from second. The Great Danes loaded the bases again with two outs in the fourth but came away with no additional runs.
In the fifth, Dolan Ocasal hit a bunt single and advance to second when Hayden grounded out to the pitcher. Ocasal scored from second when Nick Kondo singled to left field. The seventh inning saw Patrick Lagravinese work a leadoff walk before advancing to third when Brad Malm hit a single down the left field line. After Ocasal struck out, Hayden safely laid down a bunt that allowed Lagravinese to score to put UAlbany up 7-2.
UAlbany reliever John Clayton retired UMBC in order in the top of the ninth to claim victory for the Great Danes. Connor Morrisroe got the start for UAlbany on Sunday and lasted 2.2 innings allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Connor Takacs pitched the next 1.2 innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out four. He gave up the ball for Clayton, who pitched the final 4.2 innings, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts.
