Short Story: The University at Albany softball team improves to 3-0 in America East action following a 5-2 victory against Hartford on Sunday afternoon.
The Great Danes outscored the Hawks, 19-7, on the weekend and now sit in first place in the conference standings.
Chelsea Henige went 2-for-3 at the plate today, as seven different Great Danes recorded hits.
In the circle, Celeste Verdolivo (3.1 innings) earned her 10th win of the spring and second of the weekend. The senior has recorded double-digits wins in consecutive seasons at UAlbany.
The Great Danes now hold a 43-11 advantage in the all-time series.
The visitors took a 2-1 lead in the third inning but the duo of Chloe Lewis and Verdolivo combined to pitch four shutout innings the rest of the way top pick up the win.
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, UAlbany saw a one-out rally load the basses following a single, a walk and a bunt. Katie Falotico delivered a deep fly ball to the fence in the center field, allowing Love Drumgole to tag from third and knot the score, 2-2.
The home team continued to rake at the plate, scoring three runs on three hits to take the lead for good in the sixth. Henige began the inning with a leadoff double before coming around to score on an outfield single by Maranda Jimenez. Three pitches later, Amelia Ely roped a two-bagger to right field, scoring one, before Shaye Swiatek notched a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-2 game.
Lewis retired the first five batters of the game before allowing a hit. Verdolivo recorded a strike out over the final 3.1 innings on her way to her 10th win of the season.
