Jimenez Tosses No-Hitter in 1-0 Loss To Norfolk State

UAlbany Sports Information   03-11-2019

Softball Score: Norfolk State 1, UAlbany 0

Records: UAlbany (5-7), Norfolk State (9-9)

Location: Hampton Blue and White Classic – Norfolk, Va.

Short Story: The University at Albany was edged, 1-0, by host Norfolk State on the final day of the Hampton Blue and White Classic in Norfolk, Va.

Recap: Maranda Jimenez pitched herself into the record books on Sunday, as the sophomore threw her first career no-hitter. Jimenez struck out six batters on her way to notching the program’s 20th no-hitter and first since 2014.

Back-to-back walks and a sacrifice bunt moved runners into scoring position. On the next at bat, UAlbany looked to get the runner at home off a ground ball to the first baseman, but Norfolk State’s baserunner was able to beat the throw for the only run of the game.

UAlbany record five baserunners in the tilt but each were left stranded as the Great Danes’ offense was kept at bay by Norfolk State’s Skylar Swain who went the distance for the Spartans.

Aliyah Wade, Katie Falotico, Chelsea Henige and Kelly Barkevich accounted for the Great Danes four hits.

Up Next: The Great Danes return to action on March 20, when they visit Mount St. Mary’s for a weekday matchup.
