Nate Siekierski made 14 saves. He’s had double-digit saves in all four games this season.
UMass scored nine goals in the second half to pull away from the University at Albany men’s lacrosse team and win, 14-8, on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
The Great Danes saw a 15-game home winning streak snapped in suffering their first defeat at Casey Stadium since April 4, 2017.
“We just didn’t execute offensively,” said Scott Marr, UAlbany’s head coach. “I thought Nate (Siekierski) played awesome in the first half. But we didn’t have any energy for some reason on the offensive end, never really put ourselves in a good position offensively all day.”
Siekierski was solid between the pipes, making 14 stops on 28 UMass shots on the goal.
UMass jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter and carried a 5-3 advantage into halftime after Ramirez’s man-up goal with 1:13 left in the second brought UAlbany within two.
But in the second half, the Minutemen ran off four straight goals to extend the lead to 9-3.
The Great Danes made a run when Ron John got the offense going in the third quarter, dodging from the right side and firing a shot into the top of the net to cut the lead to five. Nanticoke followed with two goals in a 15-second span to bring the Great Danes within 9-6.
The Minutemen answered with a three-goal run of their own, though, and despite fourth-quarter goals from Diamond and Burgmaster, UAlbany never got closer than five.
