UAlbany Entertains Vermont for National Girls & Women in Sports Day

ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany women’s basketball team welcomes Vermont for a America East matchup on February 9 in celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. Saturday’s tip-off is slated to begin at 2 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN+.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day

Immediately following Saturday’s game, fans ages 12 and under are invited to participate in a special postgame clinic. In addition to working with the women’s basketball team, members from the university’s field hockey, women’s soccer and volleyball teams will host stations where participants can learn about each sport from their favorite UAlbany sports stars.

Pizza will be provided to all participants along with purple drawstring bags. Each bag will be equipped with Great Dane memorabilia.

Last Time Against Vermont

Vermont earned a 52-39 victory when the two teams battled back on January 5. The Great Danes hold a 22-19 edge in the all-time series that dates back and have not lost to the Catamounts at home since the 2009-2010 season.

Looking at UAlbany

UAlbany is coming off a 2-0 week in which they improved to 6-3 in America East action. The Great Danes began the week with a 59-41 rout of New Hampshire on January 30, before securing the series sweep against Binghamton with a 71-63 victory. The squad is currently in sole possession of third place in the conference standings. 

Leading the Pack

Kyara Frames headlines the Great Dane’s offense with 11.5 points per game, 68 assists and 36 steals. Heather Forster who leads the team with 7.4 boards adds to the offense with 8.4 points. Alexi Schecter is totaling career highs in points (8.4), boards (4.4) and blocks (1.5) per game. As a team, the Great Danes are boasting 53.4 points and 36.9 rebounds.

Scouting Vermont

The Catamounts enter Saturday with a 9-13 overall record after falling to Maine, 66-45, on Wednesday evening, despite 19 points from Josie Larkins. The squad’s 5-5 mark in the America East puts them fifth in the league standings. Hannah Crymble is boasting 14.9 points per contest to pace all Catamounts, while Larkins and Candice Wright chip in with 9.1 points apiece. As a team, Vermont is averaging 52.9 points per game but allowing its opponents to average 59.2 points per game.
