Short Story: Alexi Schecter pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with a career-best 20 points in the University at Albany’s 64-44 rout of UMBC on Saturday afternoon.

Recap: With a dominating 64-44 win against the Retrievers, the Great Danes remain undefeated at home (3-0) in America East action.
The 20-point victory was the largest margin in a win for the Great Danes season. UAlbany saw its lead to grow to as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter as the squad improves to 3-2 in America East play.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the opening frame, but it was the home team’s strong performance from the free throw line that put them ahead 19-14.
Te’yJah Oliver led off the second quarter with a jump shot to bring UMBC within five. The Great Danes soon pulled away, using a 12-0 run to jump out to a 31-16 advantage with 4:06 remaining. Khepera Stokes would score the final points before the break as the Great Danes led by 12, 34-22 at the break.
Schecter took control in the third quarter, scoring 10 of the team’s 20 points. The junior nearly outscored the Retriever’s who totaled just 11 points in the quarter. The Lowell, Mass. native shot 4-of-5 from floor and converted on both of her free throw attempts. Schecter grabbed two rebounds as well.
Forster and Kantzy combined for all 10 of their team’s points in the fourth quarter.
UMBC saw eight of its final 11 points come in the final three minutes of action.
With the win, UAlbany improves to 6-12 overall and 3-2 in the month of January.
