ALBANY, N.Y. – After a week off following their first conference game, the University at Albany men’s basketball team will hit the court again when they host Maine at SEFCU Arena on Saturday, January 12.
The Great Danes (5-11, 0-1 AE) opened America East play against preseason conference favorite Vermont last Saturday. Despite scoring the first points of the game, UAlbany next witnessed Vermont go on a 20-0 tear to build an insurmountable lead. The game featured the top two scorers in the conference in Vermont’s Anthony Lamb and UAlbany’s Ahmad Clark. Lamb finished with 16 points and Cark finished with nine.
Maine last played against the Catamounts, falling at home 73-49. The Black Bears opened their conference slate against defending champions UMBC, losing to the Retrievers by nine in Baltimore. Maine currently owns the longest losing streak in the conference at six games.
UAlbany currently ranks seventh in the America East, one game ahead of UMass Lowell for the final spot in the tournament. The Great Danes are one of three teams, along with UMass Lowell and Maine, who remain winless through the first week of conference play. Stony Brook, Vermont, and Hartford are undefeated, while UMBC Binghamton, and New Hampshire are each 1-1.
Saturday also features the first UAlbany Basketball Weekly show on My4. Hosted by Rodger Wyland, Ashley Miller, and Chris Onorato, this week’s show features head coach Will Brown and starting point guard Ahmad Clark. The show airs Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. on My4 Albany for the remainder of the season.
Saturday’s game is one of the $3 Kids Days on the schedule for kids 12 and under. Following the game the team will host an autograph signing session.
Following the game against Maine, UAlbany will play two straight on the road, starting Wednesday, January 16 at UMass Lowell and then Saturday, January 19 at defending America East champion UMBC. The next game in SEFCU Arena will be January 23 against Stony Brook.
