UAlbany Sports Information   12-08-2018

Score: UAlbany 56, Marist 74

Location: SEFCU Arena – Albany, N.Y.

Records: UAlbany (1-9), Marist (7-2)

Short Story: The UAlbany women’s basketball team faced a 56-74 setback to instate foe Marist on Saturday afternoon in the SEFCU Arena.

Head Coach Colleen Mullen

“That is a great team Marist has, they shot nearly 60 percent through the first three quarters. We knew it was going to take a big defensive effort to really challenge them, especially from the three-point line where they have multiple shooters. They really tested us from the outside and Kyara did a great job and showed so much toughness."

"I challenged the girls at half time to not get beat by the same things we got beat on in the first half to find the open shots on offense. Overall, we showed a lot of toughness and I’m really proud of their effort.”

Recap: For the third time in four games, sophomore Kyara Frames scored 20-plus points. The guard recorded 23 points for the second time this season, but the UAlbany women’s basketball team couldn’t handle Marist who took home the 74-56 victory.

Frames knocked down a personal-best six three-pointers in the contest and finished the night with three steals, two boards and one helper. Senior Heather Forster grabbed a game-best 11 boards and chipped in with seven points.

Marist completed the game with five double-figure scorers, headlined by Alana Gilmer and Willow Duffell who totaled 13 points apiece.

Despite leading only by six points at the end of the first quarter, 22-16, the Red Foxes grew their lead to as many as 24 points in the third quarter.

The Great Danes saw a season-high 17 points come from their bench, paced by sophomore Patricia Conroy’s season-best seven points. Reserve Chyanna Canada added six points of her own in 23 minutes of action.

Marist outscored UAlbany in the paint, 26-14 and added 22 points off turnovers

Next Up: This was the final home game of 2018 for UAlbany who begins a three-game road stint next Saturday, December 15 at St. Francis Brooklyn. The Great Danes return to the SEFCU Arena on January 2 when they host Binghamton in the America East opener.
