Recap: The top-seeded UAlbany field hockey team dismantled second-seeded Pacific, 4-3, Saturday in the America East semifinals at Stanford’s Varsity Turf.

The Great Danes advance to their third title America East title game in four years, Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (ET). UAlbany will play Maine with a automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.

The teams were tied at three with under 15 minutes remaining in regulation. With 13:26 to play, sophomore Cosima Rocktaeschel scored her fourth goal of the season for the win.

Helmke, the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year, opened the scoring for UAlbany just 3:08 into the semifinal match. After earning a penalty corner, Von der Muhlen inserted the ball to McCrudden who stopped the pass at the top of the circle before Helmke fired a shot into the back of the net.

The Tigers later got on the board when Van Wyk scored in the 21st minute.

Beerkens regained the lead for the Great Danes with a redirection off a long pass from Helmke. Pacific would even the score at 2-2 just three minutes later with Wyk’s second tally of the game.

It was the Tigers who struck first in the second half. Fondario gave her squad its first lead of the game, 3-2, at 43:44 before Bozek evened the score 74 second later.

Rocktaeschel posted the game-winning goal at 46:34 to secure the win and send her team to the tournament championship.

Pacific elected for a kicking back in the final five minutes of play but could not net the equalizer.
